
Debra Sundberg, Program Coordinator, IYC-Kawanee
As the Program Coordinator at IYC-Kawanee, Deb Sundberg conducts volunteer recruitment activities, provides individual and group orientations for potential volunteers, coordinates and provides in-service training for tutor volunteers and assists in referring, interviewing and assessing youth for program participation. She also maintains on-going communication with IYC Staff, volunteers, LVI staff and youth involved with the program and recruits Americorps members to serve as tutors and staff. Sundberg is a contributor to the Eye on IYC program newsletter and currently tutors and mentors appoximately thirty students with whom she facilitates the GED computer and self-study programs.
In 2008, Sundberg was named the Volunteer of the Year by IYC-Kewanee and, went on to be named the state Volunteer of the Year by the Illinois Department of Juvenile Justice for her work the previus year as an AmeriCorps member. She is a member of the Henry County Human Service Council and the Polish National Catholic Church where she serves as President of the Ladies Society and is active with church functions and fundraisers. She is currently taking a Geography class at Black Hawk College using her Americorps education award.
Before joining LVI, Sundberg was an Administrative Secretary for the Henry County Economic Development Partnership, Teaching Assistant and School Secretary for Central Elementary and Jr. High School – Kewanee School Dist. 229, and Program Technician for the USDA Henry County Farm Service Agency.
Sundberg graduated from Kewanee High School and attained an Associates Degree from Black Hawk College in early childhood development.
